These past few days have been simple around here. When the sun is shining, we’re most likely outside reading a book, digging in dirt, or playing with chalk. And when the cool spring rains come around, we’re gonna be baking something. With lots of early spring strawberries and rhubarb we’ve been making these muffins. So moist and very yummy.

Most recently we’ve been enjoying the return of the farmer’s market and preparing for a trip out west.

I have been thinking about this for a while. I took the plunge. I started a new blog- about sewing; a journal of my sewing endeavors. I would love for you to check it out. I am by no means a highly skilled seamstress, just a simple mama learning to sew, who found her creative outlet through her love of print and fabric.

So here it is: made by your mama

I hope you enjoy and are inspired, just as I have been inspired by many.

make for one very happy boy to be playing in the water.

This weekend we explored Mason Neck State Park. We are sure to go back. It was beautiful. The Potomac in the closest thing I’m gonna get to a beach around here, so I’ll take it. What else is a southern California girl supposed to do…

The Easter Conundrum

Spring is here, seeds are planted, and the dogwood is blooming. This has become one of my favorite seasons (autumn is the other) as everything goes from brown to green. And to celebrate this wonderful change, we decided to give the boys Spring baskets (in lieu of Easter baskets). They are simply tin buckets filled with new chalk, shovels, bubbles, a few toys, and of course an egg filled with candy. They loved them and I’m hoping this will be a yearly tradition.

Farewell wool socks and heavy stews. It feels so wonderful to be out of hibernation.

We’re enjoying the sunlight, early spring warmth, new sprouts, and discovering new places with dear friends. Spring is at our doorstep.

{A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.}

(taken by a wonderful friend. thank you for capturing this moment!)

I’m very simple in my knitting- mostly sticking to scarfs, wash cloths, and garter stitch blankets. (But I have high hopes of learning how to knit socks and sweaters for my family.) The pattern for this scarf came from Tiennie Knits. I choose a chunkier yarn from my favorite local shop but kept the pattern the same. Its cozy and soft, and I’m so happy with how it turned out.

Just as my books and projects are strewn across the house in every room, so are the toys. The living room is a playroom and I’m completely comfortable with that.

Winter seems to be coming to an end, which means we’re spending more time in the sun.

While brother sleeps, I’ve been trying to pursue more creative opportunities with Carson. This site has many great ideas and so does this place.
